About the Author

Portrait of Bhavy Khatri

Bhavy Khatri is a Data & Applied Scientist at Microsoft who enjoys exploring a simple but fascinating question: how can we build software that does more than respond, and can actually reason, make decisions, use tools, and solve problems? Over the years, his work has taken him from data science and analytics into the world of AI agents, where he has worked on large scale analytics systems, Copilot experiences, agentic workflows, and tool enabled AI systems.

Through this book, Bhavy shares what he has learned while building and studying agentic systems. His goal is not just to explain the latest frameworks or trends, but to help readers understand the core ideas that make agents work: reasoning, memory, tools, planning, evaluation, and reliable system design. He believes the future of software will be shaped by agents, and that building them requires both strong engineering principles and a healthy dose of curiosity.

Portrait of Jitendra Patil

Jitendra Patil is a Senior Applied Scientist at Microsoft with a passion for building intelligent systems that combine data, machine learning, and modern AI technologies. Throughout his career, he has worked on large scale analytics platforms, search and AI experiences, experimentation systems, and emerging agentic technologies. He is particularly interested in how AI systems can move beyond simple automation to become capable assistants that can reason, use tools, learn from feedback, and help people make better decisions.

Jitendra has been actively involved in the evolution of AI powered analytics experiences, agentic architectures, observability for AI systems, MCP based workflows, and the practical application of LLMs in real world products. He enjoys exploring new ideas, understanding how complex systems fit together, and translating rapidly evolving AI concepts into solutions that create measurable impact.
